Dear Supporters,
It’s been three years since the launch of the Burn Healing Foundation and we are in a celebratory mood as we have restored 55 lives and gathered a team of 19 partner hospitals across India. BHF is evolving into a unique charity for burn survivors, with no other parallel reconstructive surgery focused NGO in the world. Today it has been fairly successful even if launched during the pandemic and operationally recruiting patients since August, 2021. It has been a longstanding dream of mine to deliver something substantial to the burn survivors as focusing on burn injury through out my career contributed so much to my own professional development. India, unfortunately, is the ‘Burn Capital’ of the world. A large percentage of the burn victims succumb to the injury because of lack of facilities but a larger number of survivors are rendered more miserable because of residual deformities. Such hapless and poor patients are unable to afford surgical correction and the long waiting lists at specialized burn centers is very disheartening. Small children with hand contractures are unable to function properly in their formative years and adults are rendered unemployed because of functional disabilities. The economic burden of the burn injury is immense on the poor hapless victims who suffer a further deterioration in their already low quality of life. Patients with severe deformities even lose the will to live.
I have repeatedly mentioned in my professional engagements that ‘More is Less’ in delivery of charity for such burn victims. We wish that kindhearted individuals from the community take this cause further and join us in providing succor to these unfortunate individuals. There are so many charities to choose from for your kindness and we have added one more where none existed so far in this model. The existing network of our partner hospitals is a group of dedicated senior plastic and burn surgeons who join us in our mission. We plan to reach out to industry and corporations wherein you are already working or heading supporting our cause through existing Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ) programs. A torch has been lit and the flame needs to light your spirits to join the cause. Our existing team looks forward to creating the synergy between the community and our beneficiaries.
