Bringing A Global Voice Together – World Burns Week Awareness Campaign

Disclaimer: The information presented in this campaign is derived from the experiences and narratives of burn survivors, as well as insights from healthcare professionals, to raise awareness and foster support for burn injury recovery and advocacy.

Within the medical community the extent of a burn injury impacting a life is well known, but the survivor narrative is beyond the medical treatment and it is a lifelong challenge. The scars, and sometimes functional body deformities, become triggers and the survivors find it difficult to adjust or be socially productive.

Beyond the endeavors of the International Society for Burn Injuries that has been an advocate of burn treatment in providing training to burn specialists , emergency doctors , nurses and other  healthcare professionals, the other stakeholders including social organizations like burn healing foundation and others come together for the first time to create a global outreach campaign for burn awareness and advocacy.

The hidden cost of burn injuries is unimaginable. Burn injuries have far-reaching consequences. Lost wages, missed school, physical therapy, social stigma and emotional trauma are just some of the hidden costs.

As such, the deep rooted impact of burn injuries makes it an invisible challenge mitigating treatment concerns and surviving for dignity of life.

Burn Healing Foundation established by Dr Rajeev B Ahuja,  Past President – International SOciety of Burn Injuries ( ISBI ), National Academy of Burns India ( NABI ) & Association of Plastic Surgery OF India ( APSI ) is one such social welfare voice. India is recognised as the burn capital of the world and at BHF burns is not just a medical issue but improving the quality of life of poor patients by “ holistic healing “ is the conversation about burns.

On the inauguration of the World Burn Week a burn survivor from India, Ms Pragya Prasun running her own social welfare organization , Atijeevaan , will be sharing her thoughts along with Tom Potokar , of the Centre for Global Burn Injury Policy & Research at Swansea University and Director of Interburns , which is another partner in this effort.

Do join on 12th October to become a part of the global voice .

Burn Healing Foundation is rooted in bringing together medical , social , psychological and health care perspectives to change the narrative of survivors.

The World Burns Week is a golden opportunity to create awareness and have partnerships, locally and globally,  to influence the healing towards a functional life of the burn victim.
